IGERT Trainee Sarah Wohlman presents her poster at ASME Conference in June 2012

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Summer Bioengineering Conference took place from June 19th to the 23rd in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Researchers from around the world presented and participated in plenary lectures, symposia, workshops, student paper competitions, presentations, and posters that covered many topics combining mechanical engineering with biology. These topics broadly included dynamics and simulation of human movement, tissue engineering, brain injury, cardiovascular dynamics, and injury biomechanics. Moto-IGERT trainee Sarah Wohlman (Wendy Murray lab, Northwestern University) presented a poster titled "A biomechanical model of the thumb that effectively replicates endpoint forces produced by human subjects and measured in anatomical specimens" as part of the Student Master's Paper Competition. Sarah received third place in the competition based on judging of both her abstract and oral presentation of her poster.
